Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for botulinum toxin, a substance used in both medical and cosmetic treatments. It is a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes muscles, helping with a variety of conditions. In dentistry, Botox is increasingly used for both therapeutic and aesthetic purposes to improve oral health and facial appearance.

How Botox is used in Dentistry

At our clinic, we offer Botox treatment for various dental conditions:

  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Disorders
Botox is used to relax the muscles around the jaw, reducing pain, jaw tension, and symptoms like jaw clenching and grinding. This treatment can provide significant pain relief and improve jaw function.
  • Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)
Botox helps prevent tooth damage caused by teeth grinding by relaxing the jaw muscles. It can also reduce the size of the masseter muscles, giving your face a more balanced appearance.
  • Gummy Smile Treatment
Botox is used to relax the muscles controlling the upper lip, lowering it during a smile and reducing the visibility of excessive gum tissue (known as a gummy smile).
  • Facial and Oral Pain Relief
Botox can also treat conditions like chronic facial pain or trigeminal neuralgia, which are caused by muscle tension or nerve issues.
  • Facial Aesthetic Treatments
Botox enhances the appearance of your smile by relaxing facial muscles and is often combined with other dental treatments. It can also subtly lift the corners of the mouth or reduce vertical lip lines.

Botox treatments at our clinic are quick and comfortable. Here’s what you can expect:

Consultation and Treatment Plan
Our dentist will assess your needs and create a personalized treatment plan for you.
Topical Anesthesia
We apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to ensure you feel comfortable during the procedure.
Injection
Using tiny needles, Botox is injected into the targeted muscles. The treatment typically takes 10-15 minutes.
Minimal Discomfort
After the procedure, you might experience slight discomfort, but this usually goes away in a few hours. Bruising or swelling is rare, but if it occurs, it typically fades quickly.

FAQ

The results of Botox last 3-4 months on average, depending on the treated area and individual factors. After this, muscle activity gradually returns, and repeat treatments may be needed to maintain results.
